Crossing Futures was founded in 2023 by Bart Brouwer with the aim of sharing his extensive strategic knowledge and experience with you. This is to help you deal with the many uncertainties we experience today and turn them into well-informed strategic decisions.
It is his passion to bridge the gap between the many trends and rapid developments in the outside world and the strategic decisions to be made within organisations. He is convinced that organisations can better prepare for an uncertain future by involving broader perspectives, more insights, and different future scenarios in their strategic choices.
Bart is a highly experienced all-round strategic and financial advisor at board level with a professional career spanning over 30 years across various industries and roles.
After serving the Royal Dutch Navy as a reserve officer, he worked in financial and strategic roles for Shell, KPN, PwC, and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs before joining ING in 2007. Since 2010, senior corporate strategist and head of Corporate Development, advising the top of ING Group.
Bart started Crossing Futures in 2023 to support organisations to incorporate uncertainty in their strategic decision-making processes. He is a member of the Global Foresight Network of the World Economic Forum, member of the Advisory Board of the Economics and Business Faculty of the University of Amsterdam, and Supervisory Board member of training institute Rino amsterdam. Bart provides regular guest lectures and holds a Master of Science degree in Economics from the University of Amsterdam and the Graduate School of Business at San Francisco State University.

Since 2010, he has been co-responsible as a senior corporate strategist for formulating the vision and strategy of the global bank, and leading the Corporate Development team in recent years. His areas of focus included scenario planning, conducting competitive and trend analyses, developing new business models, and preparing strategic dialogues.
As an employer, ING promotes sustainable employability for its employees, even outside the organisation. This has allowed Bart to further develop an initiative like Crossing Futures alongside his work at ING.
Bart is a member of the Global Foresight Network of the World Economic Forum, a leading global platform for public-private dialogue focused on strategic foresight and further knowledge exchange. Recently, he shared his insights as a panelist during the WEF Strategic Intelligence Outlook in preparation for the annual meeting in Davos.
Bart is also a member of the Advisory Board of the University of Amsterdam at the Faculty of Economics and Business.
In 2020, he successfully completed non-executive education program “De Nieuwe Commissaris” and has been a member of the Supervisory Board of training institute Rino Amsterdam since 2021.
Bart regularly gives guest lectures at the University of Amsterdam and the University of Groningen. He holds a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Amsterdam and the Graduate School of Business at San Francisco State University.
